Vladimir Horowitz - The Great Comeback

Nach zwölfjähriger Abwesenheit war Vladimir Horowitz' Rückkehr auf die Konzertbühne eines der aufregendsten Musikereignisse in New York. Es war Sonntag, der 9. Mai 1965, als der große Pianist die Bühne der Carnegie Hall betrat und von Standing Ovations begrüßt wurde. Es war sein erster öffentlicher Auftritt, nachdem er die selbe Bühne am 25. Februar 1953 verlassen hatte. Die Aufnahme dieses Konzertabends wurde mit drei Grammy® Awards ausgezeichnet und wurde eines der erfolgreichsten klassischen Alben. In den Monaten vor dem historischen Tag des 9. Mai ging Horowitz in die Carnegie Hall - zweimal im Januar, zweimal im April -, um für seine Frau und enge Freunde zu spielen, bevor er meinte, dass er bereit sei, öffentlich aufzutreten. Columbia Masterworks zeichnete diese intimen Privatkonzerte sowie seine anschließenden Proben für seine Rückkehr im Jahr 1966 auf Band auf. Seit mehr als 50 Jahren blieben diese nahezu unveröffentlicht. Die vorliegende Luxus-Ausgabe lädt den Zuhörer ein, in den Kreis der wenigen Horowitz-Vertrauten einzutreten, die diese Konzerte in dem dunklen, fast menschenleeren Konzertsaal besuchten: Wir hören, wie Horowitz die Freiheit der Improvisation in bisher ungehörten Probenmitschnitten genießt und lernen seine Arbeitsweise anhand vieler, zum Teil amüsanter Gespräche kennen, die in intimer Arbeitsatmosphäre aufgezeichnet wurden. Der 212-seitige Bildband mit 15 CDs enthält eine umfangreiche Sammlung bisher nicht gesehener Fotos von Don Hunstein, drei neue Essays des Pulitzer-Preisträgers Tim Page, des Pianisten Jed Distler und des Horowitz-Gelehrten Bernard Horowitz sowie Faksimile-Bilder und vollständige Transkriptionen der Gespräche.
